"MR. BRICKS is a maniacal metal ride from start to finish, a truly innovative musical that fires on all headbanging cylinders. You MUST see this film!" - Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead)
“To his immense credit, director/composer Travis Campbell manages to deftly marry the gritty aesthetic of a micro-budgeted old school hardcore records, sinister jazz hands, and the usual campy Troma joie de vivre with a twisting, turning, blood and guts narrative.” -Shawn Macomber (Decibel Magazine)
“...The icing on the cake is characters breaking into metal songs! It might sound too weird for you, but trust me, it works!...If you're experimental and want to see something wildly different, then check out MR. BRICKS!" - Brian Morton (Rogue Cinema)
“A solid-steel bullet straight to the heart of underground cinema fans, and aimed straight at the balls of any movie fans out there who like film emotion raw as hell." - almasoscuras.com, Spain
“...feels like part snuff film and part music video. It’s visually striking, brutally violent, and full of gratuitous sex...MR. BRICKS is definitely worth a look for Troma fans. If you liked REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA, you will probably like MR. BRICKS. There are some similarities, butMR. BRICKS absolutely stands on its own two feet." - Tyler Doupe (funwithhorror.com)
“...a truly brilliant film on several fronts...just the concept of a Heavy Metal murder musical is genius...this film is solid to being its title.” - Mike Salamone (Bloodfeast, Inc)
"Definitely an idea whose time has come..."
– Ken Russell, Director (The Who’s Tommy, The Devils)
“MR. BRICKS is a one-of-a-kind, original film. Director Travis Campbell and Producer Justin Martell will take their places along with James Gunn and Eli Roth in the movement of the 'Make Your Own Damn Movie' style of film making.”
– Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Entertainment and creator of the Toxic Avenger
"Pretty intense!" – Stuart Gordon, Director (Re-Animator)
"MR. BRICKS Rocks!" – Richard Barone (The Bongos/Author, FRONTMAN: Surviving the Rock Star Myth)
“More disturbing than The Human Centipede!” – Dave Palumbo (rxmuscle.com)
"These newcomers to the industry seem to have produced something that may put them up on the same steps as Troma graduates James Gunn, Trent Haaga, and Eli Roth" - Flixist.com
"Divertido y salvaje. ¡Un musical muy heavy!" ("Funny and wild. A very heavy musical!") - Diego Lopez (Programmer, Sitges Film Festival)
“This is cinema!” - Don Cato (Co-Director/Programmer, Queens World Film Festival)

Director’s Statement:
Why make a heavy metal murder musical? The question I am always asked. Well first, I have never seen a musical where a character breaks out into head banging and fist pumping while screaming their emotions. I have always enjoyed experimental musicals like Dancer in the Dark, the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Pink Floyd's The Wall (if you want to call that a musical). I have also always enjoyed heavy metal and hardcore music, from Megadeth to Biohazard and everything in between. Why not put the two elements together? It seemed natural in my mind! But...
Would the audience accept it? I knew from the beginning, the audience would either buy into the heavy metal premise or they would not, it is after all a niche film, and most people don't like musicals much less heavy metal! I felt like it was an experiment like Frankenstein's Monster, either the people would accept the monster or they would chase it out of town like a screaming mob with torches (hey, that might make a cool heavy metal album cover!). Yet, even if the heavy metal musical part was hard to get through, I had faith that the story would compensate the nay-sayers.
For at the heart of the picture is the love, or twisted love between Bricks and Scarlet. I think everyone can relate to what the French call "un amour fou," or crazy love, where you are so blinded by one person's presence and charm, so driven by what you think is love, so focused on making them love you, all rational thought dissolves and only obsession and the drive to make that person yours and yours alone remains! Or maybe that's just me, hey it worked for nearly every Claude Chabrol film! Un amour fou.
At the end of the day, I am grateful that the experiment worked, yes a heavy metal murder musical is possible and it's alive and well living on this site under the monicker, Mr. Bricks. I thank everyone from the cast and crew, to our families, friends and the fans that made this picture possible! Without you Mr. Bricks would still be a heavy metal riff burning in my brain, never to see the light of day!
Until next time, un amour fou!
–Travis Campbell, New York, October 2010.
